Is not surprise then, that ski and snowboard are the most popular sports in the area. However, more and more, snowshoe trips are gaining popularity. It’s an easy way to enjoy the scenery while exercising.

The origin of snowshoe dates back to the times before Christ, when it was used for hunting and winter travel. Nowadays, snowshoes have been modernized and incorporate mobile bindings to ease the climb, and safely lock the feet when going downhill.

Most cross-country ski resorts (Aransa, Bosc Virós, Guils Fontanera, Sant Joan de l’Erm and Tuixent-La Vansa) have marked snowshoe circuits within their boundaries, which are accessible to beginners, and offer: equipment rental and guides.

Also, there is a list of off-limits circuits that you can find on any of the ski resort’s website. In this case, please note that it is required to go with a companion for safety reasons.

A good tool to find the most appropriate itinerary is Wikiloc, a Catalan coop web, which offers maps of the marked itineraries plus comments and photos uploaded by users. Altogether in Catalonia there are currently over 700 snowshoe routes, which can be sorted by different categories such as distance or level of difficulty, according to the criteria of the growing number of fans to this discipline.
