TERRITORY / REGION:

Girona

One of the longest snow seasons in the Pyrenees

This Cerdanya resort has a reputation for being the first resort to open and doesn’t close until spring thanks to the excellent location of its slopes and snow maintenance.

90% of the Girona province resort’s runs face north. This conserves the snow and allows skiers to enjoy one of the longest seasons in the area. It also has the largest height difference in the eastern Pyrenees at 935 metres.

Maze of trails in the forest

ESkiing in Masella means spending half your time in the woods. Black pines and firs cover the slopes of  the summit of Tosa (2,535 m), the highest point in the resort. There are trees on almost all its runs, allowing you to enjoy the magnificent sight of freshly fallen snow on their branches.

And on top of this, Masella is not just a place to ski. The extraordinary views of the sunny Cerdanya valley, including eastern Pyrenees mountains such as Puigmal, Carlit and Puigpedrós, mean it is an exceptional viewing point.

Looking forward

This Pyrenees resort is always looking to the future. In recent years it has upgraded its facilities, introduced chairlifts and created new runs to increase its number of skiable kilometres.

The resort has also invested in improving and expanding its snowmaking system. It has introduced the latest snow guns which consume less and perform better. This will produce one kilometre of guaranteed snow.

In times of crisis, buying a ski pass can involve emptying your pockets. Masella offers a variety of season tickets and discounts for large families, weekday passes, six-day passes, students etc.

In addition, the resort’s ski and snowboard hire equipment has been improved. To offer a better service to the public, the hire shop is now on the ground floor of the Abrigall hostel and features new equipment including high-end skis, boots and snowboards.

Everything right next to the slopes

In the lowest part of the resort, the Pla de Masella (1,600 m), there are areas for beginners featuring magic carpets and lifts with easy access to green runs, ensuring safe and easy learning. In addition, this area has several bars, a restaurant, the ski and snowboard school, a shop, a snow garden, equipment hire services and hotels that make a visit to the resort a comfortable and enjoyable experience.

La Molina + Masella, 135 skiable kilometres in Dues Estacions

The largest ski area in the Eastern Pyrenees

The Masella resort and La Molina make up the Dues Estacions facility: 135 kilometres for skiing non-stop all day long. The resorts are joined by the Alp 2500 La Molina cable car making them into one of the largest ski areas in the Pyrenees.

Up to 135 km available for skiing within two hours from Barcelona and with a wide range of accommodation and services, all within walking distance from the ski slopes.

Dues Estaciones is name given to La Molina and Masella resorts when they are combined together. They are joined by the Alp 2500 cable car that covers almost 3 kilometres in just 8 minutes separating the Comella car park at 1,700 metres above sea level from Tosa d’Alp at 2,340. The area, with the mountain top’s highest point reaching 2,535 metres, has the largest drop in the Eastern Pyrenees at 935 metres.

Enjoy skiing and competing

The combination of both resorts offers many possibilities to enjoy a great experience in the snow, be it snowboarding or skiing. It has competition stadiums which have been used for various skiing World Cup events and the snow park that was created for the 2011 Snowboard World Cup in La Molina. In addition, tracks and trails through Masella’s forests give the skiing experience a special charm.

La Molina+Masella have a wide variety of pistes for all levels and tastes. There are steady and wide slopes and narrow paths among the firs. It is very easy for first time skiers and snowboarders to have a go, as the Pista Llarga and the Pla de Masella have two beginner zones that are easily accessible. You can improve your technique and ski down medium-level slopes in Dues Estaciones: 40 blue runs are available to test your courage and continue learning.

The more adventurous experts will find classic trails in the largest skiable area in Catalonia such as Alabaus or more exciting runs such as Coms or other slopes down from Tosa, which is the highest point.
