Summer is for picnics

Good weather invites to do outdoor activities. Eating a meal surrounded by nature can be pretty enchanting. It all depends on the scenery. Luckily in Catalonia, you can find plenty of beautiful picnic areas equipped with all kinds of services. The only requirement to access is that you respect nature. In the Montseny there is the area called Las Piscinas, located in a grove next to the river Tordera. It has benches and tables, two barbecues, fountains, parking lot, restrooms and a recreational area.

In Arbúcies, right at the foot of Castell de Montsoriu (Montsoriu Castle), you can find El Pol, a picnic area of 18,000 square meters. Crossed by a mountain stream, it has the usual tables, benches and barbecues, but also a football field, basketball court, swings and a bar among other things.

Now, if you fancy a romantic picnic, you can head towards the town of Vilafranca del Penedès. Its vicinity is filled with picnic areas close to the many wineries. You can rent a bike, for instance and pedal through the inspiring landscape, visit a winery, taste some wines, purchase a bottle and enjoy it while you eat surrounded by this characteristic scenery.

Last but not least, another highly recommended picnic area is found in the town of Sant Llorenç de Montgai in the county of Camarasa, province of Lleida. A place known for its reservoir circled by willows, the ruins of a Saracen castle and for being an ideal place to practice numerous water activities like kayaking or fishing. It is also a great place for birdwatching, in part, because it is a nature reserve.
