High level sport in Catalonia

Catalan ski resorts organise a large number of competitions, from downhill skiing to snowboarding, from cross-country skiing to dog sledding. In recent years they have shown great organisational skills and continue to grow their presence in international competitions.

This winter, La Molina ski resort will host two World Cup events. Firstly, it will hold slalom, giant slalom and super-combined downhill ski races for the physically disabled from 31st January to 2nd February 2012, an exceptional occasion that is a must-see live. Then secondly there will be the snowboard giant slalom event, a great reminder of last season’s Snowboard World Cup. Plus Pallars-Espot Ski is hosting the Telemark World Cup from 16th to 18th March, which involves a traditional downhill free-heel style.

The hallmark winter races will take place as they do every season and the Marxa Beret and Marxa Pirineu are the two most popular cross-country events in Catalonia. Each year they attract more and more entrants and are a great success. This year we will once again see the professional mushers perform. The Pirena will come along the length of the Catalan Pyrenees once more and there will be a final party at La Molina.
